 Monthly Activity Reports 

WCCED employs a small professional staff with significant experience with economic and community development projects. They currently occupy offices provided by the Village of Webster at 28 West Main Street. The staff is available to assist both public and private project sponsors as well as local government and community organizations. Their resources are augmented by a number of of economic development agencies and groups at the State, regional, county, and local levels.

 

Monthy staff activity reports are prepared and distribted to WCCED Board members and contributors. The latest report follows below.

STAFF ACTIVITY REPORT

January, 2012

 

 

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

 

  • Attended Entrepreneur Development Program at Finger Lakes Community College. Expanded network of bankers, other lenders and business assistance groups.
  • Met with local developer experiencing problems in securing an easement from NYS Department of Transportation needed for construction of detention pond for new development in Webster. Researched issue and contacted NYSDOT. Discussed matter with DOT and arranged for conference call between all parties to address issue.
  • Continued to work on facility search inquiries received from Greater Rochester Enterprise. Contacted Xerox, local real estate agents, and various building owners in Webster.

 

BUSINESS RETENTION

  • Continued to work with several local business people seeking relocation options in Webster including a chocolate molder, race car prep shop and a local restaurant. .
  • Continued to meet with owners of local business requesting marketing assistance and business introductions. Prepared targeted list of health care providers and letters of introduction which were sent out by business.
  • At request of Regional Director of Empire State Development, attended briefing session in Canandaigua on Governor's budget proposal and the implications for economic development in the state.
  • Met with regional representative of New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to review NYSERDA incentive programs for energy saving construction and retrofits.
  • Attended January meeting of Case for Business.
  • Attended January meeting of Webster Business Improvement District

 

 

 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

·           Met with Director of Genesee Transportation Council and discussed timing for approval of a Circulation, Accessibility and Parking Study to be conducted for the Village of Webster.

·           Met with staff member of Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council to discuss development in Webster and possibilities for her involvement in WCCED program activities.

·           At Mayor Elder's request, contacted NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for information on the status of an approved grant to the Village for promotion of the farmers Market. Preparing request to state for extension of the grant.

·           Met with local planning consultant to discuss New York's Main Street program and the potential competitiveness of an application for the Village of Webster. Arranged meeting with Mayor, BID President and others to discuss timing and requirements of such an application.

·           Attended January Chamber of Commerce Breakfast before Business event.

  • Attended WCCED January meeting and provided materials for review before and after meeting.

  • Continued to work on facility search inquiries received from Greater Rochester Enterprise. Contacted Xerox, local real estate agents, and various building owners in Webster.
  • Attended bankers' tradeshow in downtown Rochester. Expanded banking contact network particularly in regard to small business loans.

 

BUSINESS RETENTION /EXPANSION

·         Prepared minutes from Case for Business November meeting.

 

  • Continued to work with several local business people seeking relocation options in Webster including a chocolate molder and race car prep shop.
  • Met with owners of local business requesting marketing assistance and business introductions. Researched line of business and drafted letters of introduction.
  • Met with Regional Director of Empire State Development for clarification of Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council's Development Strategies.
  • Participated in NYS Energy Research and Development Authority webinar on program assistance available for small businesses.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

·           Prepared supplementary information in support of an application for funding of a CAP (circulation, accessibility & parking) Study of the Village of Webster for consideration by the Genesee Transportation Council (GTC). Funding approval is expected in March.

·           Prepared article on Consumer and Cable Service Survey for Webster Town Times community newsletter.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

 

  • Continued to work on facility search inquiries received from Greater Rochester Enterprise. Contacted Xerox and various building owners or their realtors in Webster relative to availability of land and/or buildings
  • Prepared comprehensive review of community demographics, economic strengths, and incentive programs for Xerox Property Management Unit
  • Prepared and submitted community listing of WCCED as a prime contact for development opportunities in Webster for Area Development magazine.

 

BUSINESS RETENTION /EXPANSION

 

  • Continued to work with several local business people seeking relocation options in Webster. Most recent clients including a chocolate manufacturing operation and a racing car fabrication business. Both projects are considering possibilities for a Webster location as well as outside
  • Attended workshop on 2010 census results and access to community data sponsored by US census Bureau and Finger Lakes Section of the American Planning Association
  • Participated in US Economic Development Administration webinar on Industrial Incubators and their benefit to communities
  • Responded to local professional practice seeking possible incentives for parking lot expansion
  • Attended opening of Old Irish Pub
  • Attended Chamber case for Business Committee meeting/ preparing minutes of session
  • Attended BID November meeting and provided update on WCCED activities
